Permits are required for specific activities and events at YBG.
Who needs a Permit for YBG?
Yerba Buena Gardens is a public space open to all visitors and residents. However, permits are required for the following activities:
- Groups of more than 25 people
- Film Shoots taking more than just a few minutes or using talent, models and professional equipment such as lighting, tripods, etc.
- Student Film Shoots
If you are planning a visit with these activities or group size, you must contact the YBG Management Office, call 415.820.3550 or visit the office at least 72 hours in advance of arriving to secure a permit.
If your are planning an event at YBG, you must also secure a permit. A one day alcohol license can be covered by your event permit fees.

Each rental is priced case-by-case based on the specific scope and location of each event. To receive an estimate for renting a YBG venue, please submit a rental application form. We offer community discounts and competitive rental rates.
When you rent a YBG venue, you are also providing continued support for all of the free public programs at YBG. All proceeds from rentals benefit the free programming at YBG.
Special event permits require 30 day advance notice.
Film/photo shoot permits require 72 hour advance notice.
